Special Events in Historic Downtown
-Krewe of Barkus Dog Parade and Mardi Gras Festival: Sunday before Mardi Gras. Patterned after the legendary Mystic
Krewe of Barkus in New Orleans which was established to help abused and abandoned canines. Historic Downtown McKinney calls
in all dogs and dog lovers on a sunny Sunday to feature a dog parade and festival coupled with food vendors, interactive animal
and non-profit vendor booths, live music, food galore, canine training and exercise demonstrations and much more.
-Art & Jazz Festival: First weekend in June. Local and regional artists come out to play in Historic Downtown McKinney
on a beautiful spring weekend in June. Visit artists representing every mix and medium of art while you enjoy the sounds
of jazz. Plan to spend a weekend and experience the magic of history coupled with fine dining, arts and crafts, street dancing,
live entertainment, activities for all ages and much more.
-Ice Cream Crank Off: The Saturday Before School Starts. Texas' August heat has finally met its match: The Annual
Killis Melton Homemade Ice Cream Crank Off takes place in front of Clyde's in McKinney's historic downtown. The flavors and
competition have gotten fierce and exotic! Jalapeņo flavored? People come from all over to sample homemade ice cream in
the widest variety of flavors you'll ever find.
-Scare on the Square: Halloween Evening. This annual event has grown to hundreds of trick or treaters enjoying hayrides,
treats and a safe, secure family fun Halloween event. Historic Downtown McKinney is closed off for trick or treaters to cross
the streets safely, going shop to shop for goodies.
-Dickens of a Christmas: Thanksgiving Weekend. Downtown McKinney's premier festival, the annual Dickens of a Christmas.
An old fashioned, Victorian Christmas atmosphere with horse drawn carriages, traveling carolers, visits with Santa Claus,
a Christmas tree lighting ceremony and activities for all ages. Plus a chance to finish all that holiday shopping in one
place with over 100 boutiques, art galleries, bookstores, apparel, gifts and antiques.
